Marvin Lai, EMBA, MA, MSc.FinMgt, MSc, BSc, FHKIoD, MHKSI, PMgr, joined Cyberport Hong Kong as the Chief Investment Officer in January 2017. He serves as a strategic partner to handle the management of the Cyberport Macro Fund and cultivate investor relationships, in particular, fortifying the network of venture capitalist and angel investors.
Marvin brings to Cyberport his 30 years of leadership and extensive financial services experience in investment and venture capital and private equity, as well as technology and consumption in the commercial, public, and academic sectors. He has built strong connections with the start-up and financial industries and served on a number of advisory boards of investment and venture capital as well as science and technology associations such as Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association, Hong Kong Business Angel Network, and the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association of Hong Kong.
Prior to joining Cyberport, Marvin held several senior management and consulting positions at investment companies, including iTM Ventures Inc, and Burgeon Group Consulting Ltd. He began his career at leading technology players such as IBM and AT&T Bell Laboratories.
Marvin holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University and Johns Hopkins University, respectively, a Master’s degree in financial management from the University of London, a Master’s degree in management research from Macquarie University (MGSM), and EMBA degrees from INSEAD and Beijing Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SEM).
Kenny Man is currently the Senior Director of Ant’s investment team, heading the international investment division. His deal portfolio include Paytm (India), Kbank/Kakao Pay (Korea), Emtek (Indonesia), Gcash (Philippines), Ascend Money (Thailand), Eyesverify (US). He has about 20 years of extensive management consulting, operational and investment experience from a wide range of business and e-commerce companies.
Prior to that, Kenny is a Senior Investment Director at Vision Knight Capital, a USD 800mn asset under management private equity firm. He has led the 91.com project from deal execution, supporting the Company’s listing and finally sold the company to Baidu for USD 1.9 billion. He has also been leading the 500.com deal which supports the Company to list in the NYSE. Finally, he has been involved in the exit of PPS and Allyes
Prior to Vision Knight Capital, Kenny was the Director of Alibaba.com Investment & Acquisition team. He built the international M&A team while completing multiple deals during his tenure. His deal included Vendio, Auctiva, and Singlefeed in US and Oncard Payments in China. He also worked in the Corporate Finance team in Alibaba Group and was deeply involved in the Alibaba.com IPO deal.
Prior to Alibaba, Kenny was the Bottling Operations Planning Manager, assisting the COO of Pepsi China on strategic and operational planning and was the Market Development Manager, overseeing the restaurant market in Hong Kong & Macau. Before Pepsi, Kenny worked in Mckinsey & Company in the Corporate Finance & Strategy Practice, advising MNCs on their China growth strategy and potential synergies on M&A.
Kenny received an Executive MBA, Joint Degree program in the Kellogg School of Management, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in University of British Columbia.
Dr Toa Charm, DBA MA, BSc, MHKCS, CBIP, joined Cyberport Hong Kong as the Chief Public Mission Officer in June 2016. As the CPMO of Cyberport, Dr Charm reports to the CEO of Cyberport and serves as a strategic partner in developing strategies and related initiatives to deliver Cyberport’s public mission.
With more than 25 years of leadership and extensive experience in FinTech, big data, business intelligence, and enterprise solutions, Dr Charm brings with him a wealth of experience from private consultancy, public administration, and academic sectors. He has built strong connections with the tech industry and served on a number of advisory boards of universities, start-up communities, NGOs, and other trade organisations including Hong Kong Computer Society, Tung Wah Hospital Group, City University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He is the EXCO member and Vice President (Innovation and Technology Application) of Hong Kong Computer Society, Founder and Chairperson of Business Intelligence and Big Data, and Founder and Chairperson of FinTech SIG of Hong Kong Computer Society. Dr Charm also served at widely-recognised tech industry players, such as being the associate partner of IBM Global Business Services Greater China, general manager of Oracle, general manager of Kingdee, and regional head of BI Competence Centre for HSBC Asia Pacific.
Dr Charm holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree from the City University of Hong Kong, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Minnesota State University.
Chibo Tang joined Gobi in 2009. He is based in Shanghai, and currently focuses on the consumer, sports, and media sectors in China. In Hong Kong, he helps to manage the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, and travels frequently to meet with various startups related to the Alibaba ecosystem.
Chibo has accumulated extensive experience in professional services, local startups, and Fortune 500 companies. He started his career as a strategy consultant with Monitor Group, where he worked across ASEAN and MENA. He also gained valuable operations experience at DMG (a Gobi portfolio company), where he was VP-Corporate Development, and at Robert Bosch, where he was Senior Manager of Corporate Strategy in Asia Pacific.
Chibo received his B.A. in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Harvard University. He currently serves on the Board of the Harvard Club of Shanghai.
Christopher Harvey (Chris) joined Accenture in June 2016 after a 15 year career at Deloitte and with 25 years’ experience of serving clients in Financial Services across the world. At Deloitte, Chris was the Global Head of Deloitte’s Financial Services business for 5 ½ years, the last 3 of which he has spent in Hong Kong spearheading their growth in the AP Region. In addition, Chris was the Global Lead Client Partner (CAL) for Deloitte’s largest global client. Chris specializes in Business and Operational strategy with a particular focus on the impact of disruptive technology on Financial Services and has worked in over 30 countries and lived in 6.
Prior to Deloitte, Chris worked in consulting at Gemini Consulting and Capco following an MBA from Cranfield School of Management. He also has an MA in Jurisprudence (Law) from Oxford University and spent 10 years as an officer in the British Army.
