GENERAL
Jumpstarter 2017 is the first-of-its-kind startup pitch event in Hong Kong co-organized by the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund, Cyberport and Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). We would offer top teams an investment commitment of up to US$3 million.
Our goal is to build, empower and boost Hong Kong’s startup community, and transform Hong Kong into a leading hub for global innovation and technology. Also, we serve as a platform that brings together startups, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists as well as helping Hong Kong entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams.
There are total of 8 semi-pitches in Jumpstarter and the topics are Fintech, Robotics, Wearables | IOT | Edutech, Healthy Ageing, Sensors & Advanced Materials, E-commerce, Smart City and Big data | AI.

If you are an early-staged entrepreneurs (from Seed to Series B) with Hong Kong ties and you fulfil the following requirements, you are eligible to apply:

  • Startup is less than 5 years old
  • Startup has raised less than US$10m in funding
  • Startup has core or substantial operations in Hong Kong or has plans to set up in Hong Kong

Seeking for investment stage: Seed, Pre-A, Series A, Series B

The judging criteria of the proposal screening and the pitching are comprised of 4 parts, including (A) Innovation and Creativity, (B) Hong Kong Nexus and Community Impact, (C) Market Potential, Business Model and Financial Performance as well as (D) Team Background and Relevant Strength. For the screening of proposals, an assessment panel of investors and startup experts who represent startup communities in specific technology sectors will screen all applications and shortlist 12 startups for each Semi Pitch.

For the pitching, a judging panel consisting of investors and startup experts representing local and global startup communities will judge selected startups at the Semi Pitch and the Grand Finale.

The participants can submit their proposals online and 12 contestants will be shortlisted for each semi-pitch. All of the shortlisted candidates will have 10 minutes to present on the semi-pitch day and the top 3 contestants for each semi pitch will be selected to participate in the Grand Finale.
The Grand Finale is divided into 2 rounds. In Round 1, each 24 finalists will be given 12 minutes (8-min Presentation + 4-min Q&A) to pitch their ideas to the panel, and 6 of them will proceed to Round 2. Out of the 6 contestants, 3 of them will be chosen, with each of them obtaining up to US$ 1 million investment from Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund.

Other than pitches, we also host a series of startup-related events, such as startup showcase, keynote speech, talk & panel discussion, networking and hi-tech experiential workshops, and also music performance.
The Grand Finale will be held on 21 Nov 2017 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Each of the top 3 startups will receive up to US$1 million in investment commitment from Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund.

TICKETING
The Grand Finale will be held on Nov 21, 2017 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Registration starts at 12.30pm and the event will end at 8pm.
Click the button “Get Ticket” at the top of the page. Follow the instructions to fill in the required information and finish the payment.
You can sit freely. There will not be a seating plan.
The ticket grants you access to all events, except that Business Matching is only open to start-ups and registered investors.

A regular adult ticket costs HK$ 800.
During Sep 25 – Oct 20, 2017, you may take advantage of the early bird price of 50% off.
During Oct 21 – 31, 2017, you may enjoy the discount of 30% off.

We also offer concessionary ticket tiers, with each student ticket and elderly ticket priced at HK$ 200 and HK$ 100 respectively.

Student between the ages of 12 and 25 who is currently enrolled in a full-time day course offered by an acceptable institution in Hong Kong may obtain entrance with the student ticket. An applicant's age is determined by the time of payment.

"Full-time day course" refers to a day-time course, which normally requires the participant to attend an acceptable local institution for not less than 20 hours of academic instruction each week for 30 weeks or more in an academic year.

"Acceptable institution" refers to :

  • schools referred to in Section 2 of the Education Ordinance (Cap279);
  • registered schools that fall under Section 3 of the Education Ordinance (Cap279);
  • schools exempted from the Education Ordinance (Cap279) under sections 9(1)(a) and (b);
  • the word “school” is defined in Section 3 of the Education Ordinance (Cap279).
Persons who are aged 65 or above can obtain entrance with elderly tickets.
Yes, you may obtain a ticket at the entrance.

You will receive a confirmation email shortly after the payment.
You will receive the confirmation email with a QR code attached within 3 days after payment. Please bring along this confirmation with a QR code at the registration counter of Grand Finale to redeem your event badge.
You may not change the ticket information after payment so please check your information carefully. Also, the ticket cannot be transferred to another person.
We do not provide refund on any tickets purchased.
No, you’re required to present the QR code in order to obtain rights to entrance.
